Brief History Wing Chun Kung Fu Wing Chun kung fu, according to legend but not verified, was devised by the nun Wu Mai, a few generations ago. It was later inherited by Yim Wing-Chun and her husband Leung Bok-Lao. With the passing of Yim, Leung named this form of kung fu Wing Chun Kuen, in honour of his beloved wife. Master Leung later moved to Guangzhou to continue his promotion of Wing Chun. Wing Chun in Guangzhou province, China-Guangzhou Wing Chun In the 1940’s, Yuen Kay San and Cheung Bo who were two of the few highly respected successors of Wing Chun in Guangzhou, took in a teenage Kung Fu enthusiast named Sum Nung, as their student. Sum Nung dedicated himself in studying Guangzhou Wing Chun and became skilled at the art and in turn a highly reputable practitioner and teacher (Sifu). Exploring the History of Choi Lee Fut Kung Fu
Family Day, celebrated here in Ontario and countries around the world, is the perfect time to enjoy family activities and explore one’s ancestral history. The holiday celebrates families, family life and the critical role family plays in our communities. How family is defined varies among cultures. While some consider only immediate family members when the word family comes to mind, others include their extended network of aunts, uncles and cousins. In cultures where people tend to live in smaller villages, the entire village is considered an extension of one’s family. This builds a true sense of community and collective history. A common “family” history is also a unifying factor in communities built upon a shared interest—like the martial arts community. Here at Bamboo Kung Fu Academy we practice Choi Lee Fut kung fu.
