Drafting Your Own Separation Agreement – Part 2

If you dabble in DIY projects you’ll know that it’s rare to dive into a project without first having some knowledge about the design, the products you’ll need, and the technique to accomplish the project. A mistake in a design element or using the wrong product or a timing error at the execution stage means starting again and wasting valuable resources. Your time and your money.

Or, you may decide that now’s the time to call in an expert to help you eliminate the chaos. Seeking advice for the step you missed or having the specialist work alongside you so you can learn along the way. For some, it’s putting the whole project in competent hands.

It’s no different in trying to write your own separation agreement.

What happens when a spouse dies before a separation or cohabitation agreement is signed?

March 11, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

Whether clients are married or cohabiting, separation is an emotional and often stressful time. Once the terms of an agreement have been reached on how the negotiations will proceed -collaborative approach, mediation, or traditional negotiations – from there it’s a matter of gathering all the relevant documentation to prove ownership and value.

What happens when one spouse or partner unexpectedly dies before an agreement has been signed? This blog will offer a few considerations and in no way is this material to be considered comprehensive legal advice.

A Child’s Place is Being a Child

February 18, 2014 by admin Leave a Comment

To the children, the emotional huddles, the atypical outbursts and the squabbling over simple scheduling matters spell out something is amiss and very wrong. Did they do something wrong to get both parents so upset?

If kids can’t keep secrets from their parents, why do parents keep such a big secret from the children? The kids know.

If the parents are planning their transition following their separation or divorce, when do the older children participate in the plans about them?
